Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is a condition characterized by recurrent febrile poly-serositis. Typical presentations of the disease include episodes of fever, abdominal pain and joint pains. Chest pain is a less common presentation. We report a case of FMF which presented with a large pericardial effusion and bilateral pleural effusions in a lady who had no positive family history and negative genetic testing.peer-reviewe

    Translation planes of order 23^2

    Get PDF
We give a complete classication of translation planes of order 23^2 whose translation complement contains a subgroup G such that the quotient group G modulo scalars is isomorphic to A_6. Up to isomorphisms, there are exactly 23 such planes and six of them have a larger translation complement being modulo scalars isomorphic to S_6

Who decides where we work - the individual, the collective or the institution? Narratives of legitimizing hybrid work practices

    Get PDF
We examine how knowledge workers use narratives to legitimize their hybrid work practices in post-Covid-19 work life. We identify three narratives, the ‘individualist’, the ‘collectivist’, and the ‘institutionalist’, as alternative perspectives of hybrid work that people draw on to legitimize their workplace choices to support performativity and well-being. This study contributes to research on organizational policy implementation by explaining how narrative constructions are used to legitimate different choices within same organizations that go through a transition from forced remote work to hybrid work

diagnostic process by using vibrational sensors for monitoring cavitation phenomena in a getoror pump used for automotive applications

Abstract A full experimental investigation on a Gerotor pump used for the lubrication of engines is described in this paper. These pumps, as well known, are widely used on engines for all hydraulic circuits and, for this reason, often they work in some conditions (such as at high speeds and pressure value) which are very challenging. In this paper one of the most unwanted phenomena that often occurs during the pump operation has been investigated: the cavitation. The cavitation can be triggered by many multiple factors such as the sloshing in the tank (translational and rotational motions), high percentage of gas dissolved in the fluid and pressure too low at the pump suction port. Therefore, the characterization of a Gerotor pump in cavitation condition is really interesting. In order to replay the cavitating conditions a pump has been installed on a dedicated test bench of the Department of Industrial Engineering of the university of Naples "Federico II". The pump has been forced to cavitate by placing calibrated orifices on the suction side of the pump. Many decreasing diameters have been located in an aluminum connection block, to measure all the working parameters like the flow-rate, pressure (at the suction and delivery ports), pump speeds and pressure ripple. Cavitating and no-cavitating conditions have been investigated by using an accelerometer sensor in proximity of the pump suction chamber with the aim of monitoring the phenomena in terms of vibration amplitude. As afore mentioned, the pump under investigation has been studied in all operative conditions with and without cavitation phenomena by using a non-intrusive sensor like accelerometer in order to monitoring if cavitation is present. More precisely, the accelerometer sensor has been located close to the pump suction chamber and the vibrations have been acquired contemporarily with pressure signals (intake and outgoing discharge) and properly triggered with tachometer signal by using a multichannel acquisition system (Siemensℱ). A spectral vibration analysis has been used as diagnostic tool for accurately detecting pump degradation. The results coming from the analysis have shown that in presence of cavitation phenomena the non-intrusive monitoring technique represent a good diagnostic method for assessing pump operability

Service Futures, Proceedings of the fourth Service Design and Service Innovation Conference

ServDes2014 explores how Service Design is contributing to ‘Service Futures’ and how it is developing as a field of research and practice. We have witnessed how the concept and role of services in the economy and society have come a long way since its first definitions and studies. Services have moved from being a peripheral activity in a manufacturing - centred economy; to an engine for growth and society driven innovation. This transformation has been fully recognised with a flourishing of service innovation and service research studies aimed at deepening understanding; and at supporting the development of services both as a sector and as a concept. We suggest that Service Design is closely following this transformation. Starting from its initial focus on service interactions and experiences; Service Design research and practice have entered more strategic and transformational roles; dealing with issues of organisational change; system design; sustainability and social change; amongst others. Increasingly; Service Design is considering ways to integrate and collaborate with other service related disciplines. Also; questions are emerging on the future of this field; considering the growing areas of application and the expansion of the concept of service itself. ServDes2014 has brought these recent discussions and transformations to the fore and offered an ideal place to collectively reflect on and imagine that future. ServDes.2014 ran over three days: The first day was dedicated to practical explorations of Service Design with eight workshops led by both practitioners and academics; The second day was mostly focused on (long and short) papers presentations organised in three parallel sessions and two extra workshops; The third and final day was partly dedicated to papers presentation and came to an end with three parallel forums exploring the future of Service Design Research and Education and their relationship with Social Innovation. Working at the boundaries of Service Design; Digital and Social Innovation; the keynote speaker Dominic Campbell (Futuregov); projected novel spaces and responsibilities for Service Design in relation to complex societal transformational challenges; while Prof. Pelle Ehn (Malmö University); positioned it within a historical retrospective of Participatory Design in a constant search for more democratic (service) design practices. The conference was organised around five main themes which are reflected in the proceedings structure: Emerging Directions for Service Design; Design for Service Innovation and Transformation; Service Design and Implementation; Novel Service Design Frameworks and Tools; Service Design Across Organisations. Thanks to everyone who contributed and participated to this conference; and we look forward ServDes.2016 further developments and ideas

Nutrient Management Strategies for Organic Vegetable Production

    Get PDF
Organic vegetable production can be profitable for growers in Utah looking to supply local markets. Much of Utah has short growing seasons (\u3c150 days frost-free) with hot, dry summers and cold winters. Organic growers must work within these constraints to generate sufficient soil fertility using cover crops, composts, and targeted use of commercial organic fertilizers. This fact sheet explores nutrient management techniques used at the Utah State University (USU) Student Organic Farm (Student Farm) located in Cache County. In operation since 2008, the Student Farm was certified organic in 2011

Plenty of food is lost from farm to fork, food that could have been eaten if it was handled differently. Food waste is causing a negative impact on the environment, which leads to climate change. Furthermore, food waste is a major problem amongst service providers. Nordic Choice Hotels has payed attention to large amounts of food waste within their restaurants. The company has therefore taken measures trying to minimize their food waste by using nudging to influence consumer behaviour. The aim of this study is to describe how nudging can be used to control specific consumer behaviours. A litterature review has been done to get an overall view of the litterature available related to the area of subject influencing consumer behaviour. Furthermore, a case study has been done on Nordic Choice Hotels. The qualitative research method is empirically driven. Triangulation has been used to provide the study with a wide range of data. The empirical data gathered contains an internal document, data from a phone interview along with data from a seminar. This study is not generalizable, since it’s a qualitative case study. Some of the key concepts that has been used in the analysis are nudging, Social Practice Theory, choice architecture and food waste. This study demonstrates that decision making and behaviour of individuals isn’t always rational. Moreover, it shows that individuals can be led in desired directions, without their knowledge. In conclusion, small changes in social and physical enviroments can have a large impact on individuals’ behaviour and decision making

The degree work is developed in the area called San Isidro Patios, within the range of adaptation of the Eastern Hills, delimited in 2015 by the Mayor of BogotĂĄ, with the observation of San Isidro in the place of being literally inside The strip, is seen as an enclave within it, has been made invisible in time because "it is not within the city", but it is also another municipality. It is the purpose of observing what is important in the support networks among the members of the community that the work is based on the concept of "Spaces of Hope", in the English geographer David Harvey (2000), in which part to build a title of this work and which can be defined as spaces that obey a way of understanding the territory, a non-global scale, but also where the value prevails over the price. It is a space in which the side of the notions of consumption is left to focus on the place of the settlement itself, where the designs for a more equitable world of work and life with nature are found.Arquitecto (a)Pregrad
